I can't believe it, in fact - the very *fun-ness* of steampunk lends itself so well to romance! I shall be on the lookout for this book. Much appreciated.

Nathalie - I believe you did think of it. You just didn't say it that way. I enjoyed FULL STEAM AHEAD very much, and it was great to read your analysis. I can always count on Nathalie Gray for high octane romance and detailed worldbuilding. In a word, *fun*!

Why is the steampunk aesthetic seemingly suited to sexy storylines?

Not just le sexy, but also the romance. Steampunk is about great visuals and ideas, but it's also about great characters. And steampunk romance of any heat level is one way of delivering character-driven steampunk.

I love, love, love the idea of merging steampunk with romance, and strongly believe the two can be merged in a way that does justice for both the emotional journey of the hero & heroine and the steampunk elements & subtext.

Will every book hit it out of the park? No, but I'm sure looking forward to see what authors come up with. And steampunk romance is a very hot subgenre currently among romance publishers both print and digital.

I also enjoyed learning about the term "crosshatch fantasies." I was familiar with what it was, but not the name. Good stuff to know.

[...]So check this out: A man by the name of Mike Perschon, who runs a blog called Steampunk Scholar, and who is also a doctoral student at the University of Alberta, and who is also an English literature professor at Grant MacEwan University, is writing a dissertation on "Steampunk as aesthetic"[...]Heather Masseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00913459109753829391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1069343736818411279.post-77502504057472383462010-06-29T12:16:53.763-06:002010-06-29T12:16:53.763-06:00Amanda and Piechur, I knew I could count on some o...Amanda and Piechur, I knew I could count on some of my readers for not only telling me I wasn't the first, but then proving it. I'm writing on steampunk after all - my colleagues are convinced I'm having waaaay more fun than they are, but that's what they get for writing on postmodern deconstruction.Mike Perschonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09335943113292616702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1069343736818411279.post-76029247640259533012010-06-29T07:30:14.743-06:002010-06-29T07:30:14.743-06:00Thanks for the breakdown on this book...I realize ...Thanks for the breakdown on this book...I realize that you are a serious scholar and maybe your looking for something different in steampunk than I am, but to me Steampunk is always first and foremost about "fantasy" and that means that romance and everything else has a place in it. The steampunk romances that I've read - I've really enjoyed and I plan to read more...that being said..this looks right up my alley :)Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14610197634075184793noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1069343736818411279.post-22818304855730535022010-06-29T06:37:54.220-06:002010-06-29T06:37:54.220-06:00Oh, steamypunk exists, that's for sure.
